How to prevent clogged drains

• Lint and fabric from the washing machine’s drain hose cause the drain to clog. Attach a lint catcher at the end of the drain hose to catch the lint.
• When grease or oil is dumped directly down the drain, it sticks to the pipe's sides, blocking it. Instead, pour it into a well sealed container that can be thrown away.
• Bacteria can be added to drains while they are not in use, such as during work hours or after bedtime. It degrades organic materials found in food, grease, and hair. 
• Hair and soap buildup are the most common causes of clogged shower drains. A mesh screen can be used to catch hair before it reaches the drain. A pop-up stopper can be used in the sink  to attract dental floss, hair, and other items that are likely to be discarded down the drain.
• Low flow toilets and taps do not keep the drains clear as it does not carry the debris down the pipe. A bucket of water can be poured into the toilet to clear the drains. Additionally, hot water can also be poured occasionally to release the debris down the drain.
• Avoid throwing all personal care products into the toilet that causes clogging.
• Have a professional inspection every 2-3 years if you own a septic tank.
